At the end of August each year, some people are frightened, or intrigued, by the idea that Mars will appear as big in the night sky as the moon.

Chain e-mails have spread advertising a rare occurrence of an enormous Mars, and planetariums have received calls from people who are concerned. Experts, however, say there is nothing to get excited about — it’s simply a hoax.
